What’s the plan people? That is the topic for todays rant. What is the plan? About a year or so ago I moved in to a new house. The intersection of my street leads onto a fairly busy street with no stop sign where my street intersects with it. So imagine a T. The top of the T is the major street, the vertical part of the T is my street. So for me to make a left, I have to cross over a few lanes of traffic, normally not a problem. And knock on wood, so far never been a problem. My question of “what’s the plan?” is for all those who find it necessary to continue at a high rate of speed heading towards my drivers side door when I am crossing over to make my left turn. What I have noticed is that people refuse to slow down or account for anything going wrong. Meaning this, my old f150 used to stall on occasion when I would punch it and turn the wheel, clearly a flaw in the design of the fuel system. The “punching it” and turning the wheel caused the fuel system to choke and my car would stall. So if these people travelling at a high rate of speed towards my car fail to account for mechanical errors, then… Houston, we have a problem. Their car will be on my lap and I of course will be no more.

I notice this happening all over town. It is part and partial to the tail-gating epidemic. Which I am guessing is part and partial to the stupidity epidemic. That all stems from the amazing sense of entitlement that has washed over our country.

Why should I have to slow down? Why should I be courteous? You are crossing over MY lane. Is that where the thinking has stopped? If so, I will ask them all, “what is the plan?”. When my car stalls, when a cat runs in front of my car, when a guy on a bike shoots out of nowhere and I have to slam on my breaks, what is YOUR plan? At your high rate of speed and no other lanes to go in to, where do you propose going? What do you see as the final outcome? And are you happy with that result? What’s the plan people? What’s the plan?

This “what’s the plan” idea can hold true for so many things. For tailgating, for convicts who may one day get out of prison, for politicians who say no to everything, for politicians who do nothing, for the guy reading the newspaper while driving, for those who park their cars in a way that block an entire entrance or exit. The simple task of asking yourself, “what’s the plan?” could save a lot of people a ton of heartache.
